Sofia Coppola wrote and directed this 2003 indie drama about two Americans who meet in a Tokyo hotel and form an unexpected bond. Bill Murray plays Bob Harris, an aging actor in Japan to film a whiskey commercial, while Scarlett Johansson is Charlotte, a young woman accompanying her workaholic photographer husband (Giovanni Ribisi). Unable to sleep one night, Bob and Charlotte encounter each other at the hotel bar, and their chance meeting blossoms into a meaningful friendship. As they explore Tokyo together, the two discover solace in each other’s company and gain new perspectives on life’s possibilities.
