Chariots of Fire is a 1981 British drama directed by Hugh Hudson about two young runners preparing for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell, a Scottish divinity student and devout Protestant played by Ian Charleson, runs to feel closer to God, while Harold Abrahams, a competitive Jewish Cambridge student portrayed by Ben Cross, must overcome class prejudice and anti-Semitism to pursue his athletic dreams. The film follows these unlikely athletes as they face personal and social obstacles on their path to Olympic competition, supported by a strong cast including Ian Holm, John Gielgud, and Lindsay Anderson.
