Lee Daniels directed this 2013 biographical drama about Cecil Gaines, who worked as head butler in the White House for over three decades starting in 1952. Forest Whitaker stars as Gaines, whose career spanned eight presidential administrations and allowed him to witness firsthand the nation’s most turbulent periods, including the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War. The film explores how the sweeping social and political changes of the era shaped Gaines’ own life and his relationships with family members, featuring supporting performances by Alan Rickman, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo, and others.
