Antonio Vivaldi composed these six violin concertos during his mature years for wealthy private patrons rather than for publication, making them quite different from his better-known works. Dating from 2001, this premiere recording features violinist Giuliano Carmignola with conductor Andrea Marcon performing concertos in C major, D major, E minor, F major, B-flat major, and one additional key. While structured in the traditional three-movement format, these works showcase Vivaldi at his most adventurous, with unpredictable harmonies, dramatic contrasts, and innovative textures that set them apart from his earlier compositions.

Sony Classical released this CD featuring Carmignola’s virtuosic performance, which balances technical brilliance with expressive depth across passages filled with rapid runs, trills, double stops, and arpeggios. The orchestra, tuned to modern pitch, provides full-bodied accompaniment that complements rather than overwhelms the soloist’s commanding presence.
