V for Vendetta is a 2005 action thriller directed by James McTeigue from a screenplay by Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, and David Lloyd. Set in a dystopian future Britain ruled by a totalitarian regime, the film follows a mysterious masked vigilante known only as V, played by Hugo Weaving, who launches a campaign of guerrilla warfare against the oppressive government. When V recruits a young woman named Evey, portrayed by Natalie Portman, she becomes drawn into his dangerous quest to liberate society from authoritarian control. The ensemble cast includes John Hurt, Stephen Fry, Stephen Rea, and Rupert Graves.
