Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo is a 1944 war drama from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer directed by Mervyn LeRoy. Starring Spencer Tracy, Van Johnson, Robert Mitchum, and Alan Napier, the film follows American pilots under Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle’s command as they execute a daring raid on Japan in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. Based on true events, the story chronicles a seemingly impossible mission in which fully loaded bombers launch from an aircraft carrier for the first time, flying across the Pacific to strike at the heart of Japan before landing in China. The raid demonstrates American resolve and shatters the Japanese belief that the ocean protects them from counterattack.
