Ang Lee directs this 1997 drama adapted from Rick Moody’s novel, set in suburban Connecticut during Thanksgiving 1973. As the Hood and Carver families navigate a holiday weekend filled with unspoken tensions, sexual confusion, and cultural disconnection, a devastating ice storm forces them to face their deepest secrets. The ensemble cast includes Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, and Sigourney Weaver alongside younger actors Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, and Elijah Wood.

This Criterion Collection DVD release contains two discs and is rated R. Special features include a restored high-definition transfer approved by Lee and cinematographer Frederick Elmes, audio commentary with Lee and screenwriter James Schamus, interviews with cast members and novelist Rick Moody, deleted scenes, and production design materials. You’ll find a used copy here at a fraction of retail cost.
