Directed by Tamara Jenkins, The Savages is a 2007 drama-comedy following two adult siblings as they navigate the complexities of family responsibility. Wendy, a struggling playwright and temp worker living in New York’s East Village, and Jon, an obsessive college professor in Buffalo, have spent years avoiding their troubled family history. When their aging father Lenny suffers a mental decline, the siblings are forced to reunite and care for him, moving back in together for the first time since childhood. As they confront their father’s deteriorating condition and their own arrested lives, Wendy and Jon must reckon with the dysfunction that shaped them and discover what family and adulthood truly mean.
