Dex was once a smooth-talking ladies’ man during his college years, but a decade later he’s an overweight kindergarten teacher in Santa Fe who has transformed his casual approach to romance into a personal philosophy called “the Tao of Steve”-a blend of zen wisdom and references to three iconic Steves: Steve Austin, Steve McGarrett, and Steve McQueen. His string of one-night stands comes to an abrupt halt when he reconnects with Syd, a sharp and intelligent former classmate at a college reunion. Syd’s wit and confidence challenge Dex’s carefully constructed worldview, forcing him to confront the emotional emptiness beneath his laid-back exterior and consider whether genuine connection might matter more than his philosophy of detachment.

This 1999 indie comedy stars Donal Logue as Dex alongside Greer Goodman as Syd, with direction and writing from Jenniphr Goodman. The DVD is a single disc, 87 minutes long, rated R, released by BMG Video. Grab this used copy and enjoy a charming exploration of arrested adolescence and unexpected romance without the new price tag.
