The Animatrix is a 2003 animated anthology series created by the Wachowskis, the filmmakers behind The Matrix trilogy. Nine short films from seven leading anime directors including Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Koji Morimoto, and Shinichiro Watanabe expand the Matrix universe through a fusion of computer graphics and Japanese anime styles. The collection explores the conflict between humans and machines, with some stories directly connecting to the live-action films. Mahiro Maeda’s The Second Renaissance depicts the wars that led to humanity’s enslavement, while Kawajiri’s Program expands on Neo’s training sequence from the first film, and Watanabe’s A Detective Story stands apart from the main narrative.

This is a single-disc DVD release with a runtime of 90 minutes, rated PG-13. The edition includes biographies, documentaries, interviews, interactive menus, and DVD ROM features. Grab this used copy and experience the groundbreaking blend of anime and live-action storytelling at a fraction of retail cost.
