Speed Racer is a 1967 Japanese anime series that became one of the first “Japanimation” shows to air in the United States. The story follows eighteen-year-old Gô Mifune, a determined young driver who dreams of becoming a world racing champion. His father, automotive engineer “Pops” Racer, initially opposes the idea but eventually supports his son after witnessing his exceptional driving abilities. With his father’s high-tech Mach 5 at his command, Speed embarks on action-packed adventures alongside his friends, facing off against villains including Skull Duggery, Snake Oiler, Mr. Wiley, and the Alpha Gang.

This collector’s edition DVD contains the first eleven episodes of the series, presented in full color with a runtime of four hours and eighteen minutes. The disc is rated TV-Y7 and includes bonus features such as a theme song sing-along, a villains’ gallery, and an interactive demonstration of the Mach 5’s controls. Fans of classic animation and high-speed adventure will appreciate owning this piece of anime history at a fraction of what you’d pay for a new copy.
