Rome: Power & Glory is a six-part documentary series from 2010 that traces the rise and fall of the Roman Empire across its thousand-year history. Directed by Michael Mayers and Neil Barrett for Discovery Communications, the series features narration by Peter Coyote and commentary from historians including Carl J. Richard and Richard Brilliant. Each episode explores a different chapter: the legendary origins of Rome, the transformation of citizen soldiers into history’s most feared military force, the power struggles of Julius Caesar and Augustus, Rome’s conquest and enslavement of foreign peoples, the empire’s embrace of Christianity during times of unrest, and finally the internal decay and external threats that led to Rome’s collapse.

This single-disc DVD release runs five hours and is not rated. The series balances political, military, and cultural developments to create an informative and engaging look at one of history’s greatest civilizations. You can own this used copy of a highly recommended documentary for a fraction of the original retail price.
