Pal Joey is a 1957 musical drama directed by George Sidney and based on John O’Hara’s original New Yorker stories, which were later adapted into a Rodgers and Hart Broadway hit. Frank Sinatra stars as an ambitious singer who pursues both a wealthy widow and a showgirl to further his career in San Francisco’s glamorous nightclub scene. The film also features Kim Novak and Rita Hayworth, with a supporting cast including Barbara Nichols, Bobby Sherwood, Elizabeth Patterson, and Hank Henry. Though the character’s sharper edges were softened for the screen, the movie remains engaging thanks to its sophisticated setting and stellar cast.
