Monk is a comedy-drama series that premiered in 2005, starring Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk, an ex-cop with obsessive-compulsive disorder who works as a detective for the San Francisco police department. Despite his numerous phobias and compulsions, Monk uses his sharp intelligence and photographic memory to solve crimes while grappling with his past, including the unsolved death of his wife, Trudy. Supported by Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Lieutenant Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), and his assistants Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and Natalie Teeger, Monk tackles cases ranging from organized crime to FBI investigations.
