Shadows and Light is a 1980 concert documentary directed by and starring Joni Mitchell, capturing her 1979 tour performance at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. The film showcases Mitchell performing material from her jazz-influenced work of the 1970s, supported by an exceptional ensemble including guitarist Pat Metheny, bassist Jaco Pastorius, keyboardist Lyle Mays, saxophonist Michael Brecker, and drummer Don Alias. The performance documents Mitchell’s artistic evolution from her folk roots toward experimental jazz, featuring selections drawn primarily from her albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns, Hejira, and Mingus, with a pair of tracks from Court and Spark. This was the sole tour undertaken by this particular group of musicians together.

Released by RCA SelectaVision VideoDiscs, this DVD edition runs 73 minutes and carries an IMDb rating of 8.5. The single disc presentation includes 45 rare photographs hand-selected by Mitchell from the tour. You can own this concert document on physical media at a used price.
