Movie / Show Details

Jean de Florette is a 1986 French drama directed by Claude Berri about rural greed and sabotage. When a newcomer inherits a property in a small village and moves in to farm the land, his two neighbors grow desperate to acquire his most valuable resource: a natural spring on his property that they need for their own flower cultivation. Rather than negotiate fairly, the men devise a cruel scheme to block the spring, forcing the newcomer to struggle through a brutal summer hauling water from distant wells while his family suffers alongside him. Starring Gérard Depardieu, Yves Montand, Daniel Auteuil, and Elisabeth Depardieu, the film explores how ambition and selfishness can corrupt even the closest relationships.
