Kenneth Branagh directed and starred in this 1996 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet. The production presents the full, uncut text of the play, following Prince Hamlet as he grapples with the revelation that his father was murdered by his uncle, who has now married his mother and claimed the throne. Caught between madness and clarity, Hamlet must decide whether to pursue revenge against the man responsible for his father’s death. The ensemble cast includes Brian Blessed, Charlton Heston, and Angela Douglas, among others.

Columbia Pictures released this special edition on two DVDs with a runtime of four hours and two minutes and a PG-13 rating. Branagh shot the film in 70mm and used the grand, mirrored interiors of a 19th-century manor to create a visually expansive setting for the psychological drama. You can own this uncut version of Shakespeare’s most famous work on physical media at a used price.
