Holo Mai Pele is a 2001 documentary directed by Catherine Tatge that captures Halau ‘O Kekuhi performing an epic hula interpretation of Hawaiian mythology. The film centers on the legendary conflict between Pelehonuamea, the volcano goddess, and her youngest sister Hi’iaka, told through traditional chants and kahiko dances that have been preserved across generations. Under the guidance of Kumu Hula Pualani Kanaka’ole Kanahele and Nalani Kanaka’ole, the company merges ancestral Hawaiian performance traditions with contemporary theatrical staging.

This single-disc DVD release comes from Mountain Apple and includes Japanese subtitles. A copy of this documentary preserves rare cultural material that honors Hawaiian heritage and artistic practice.
