Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is a 2011 drama directed by Stephen Daldry and based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel. Thomas Horn stars as Oskar, an intelligent young New Yorker grieving his father’s death in the 9/11 attacks. When Oskar discovers a mysterious key hidden in his home, he becomes convinced it holds the secret to understanding his father’s life. Without telling his mother (Sandra Bullock), Oskar ventures across New York City searching for the lock that matches his key, meeting various people along the way including a silent elderly man (Max von Sydow) who may offer unexpected wisdom. The ensemble cast also features John Goodman and Jeffrey Wright.
