Earth Spirit is a 1987 folk and world music album by R. Carlos Nakai, a Navajo-Ute musician and classically trained composer. Released on Canyon Records, the album features solo Native American flute pieces that blend original compositions with traditional arrangements. Tracks like Canyon Reverie and In Media Res showcase Nakai’s improvisational approach, while Athabascan Song draws from traditional material with a faster, more lilting rhythm. Ancient Dreams, performed on a bone whistle, demonstrates Nakai’s range and his ability to evoke natural sounds, occasionally mimicking birdcalls.
