Deliverance is a 1972 survival thriller directed by John Boorman and based on James Dickey’s novel. Four Atlanta businessmen-a reflective professional played by Jon Voight, an outdoorsman portrayed by Burt Reynolds, a timid man-child played by Ned Beatty, and a neighborly type essayed by Ronny Cox-set out on a rafting expedition down an Appalachian river to test themselves against nature. What begins as an adventure into remote wilderness becomes a harrowing encounter with danger, violence, and the primal instincts buried within each man. As they face armed threats, real death, and the need to conceal their actions from authorities, the four discover how profoundly the experience transforms them.
