Peter Weir directed this 1986 drama-thriller based on Paul Theroux’s novel, with Harrison Ford starring as Allie Fox, an idealistic American inventor who believes his country is in decline. Convinced that true fulfillment lies in returning to nature, Fox uproots his family, including his wife (Helen Mirren), and relocates to the jungles of Belize to establish a utopian community. His ingenious inventions initially win over the locals, but his vision gradually unravels as dangerous elements including bandits and religious zealots, led by Andre Gregory, close in around him and his family.

Warner Bros. released this single-disc DVD with a runtime of one hour and fifty-seven minutes and a PG rating. Ford delivers an unusually raw and complex performance as a man whose idealism masks a troubling obsession, anchoring a film that explores the collision between one man’s grand ambitions and the harsh realities of the world around him. Add this thoughtfully crafted adventure to your collection at a used price that won’t strain your budget.
