Richard Linklater directed this 2014 drama that spans twelve years in the life of a boy named Mason, played by Ellar Coltrane. Filmed incrementally from 2002 to 2013, the film captures Mason’s journey from age six to eighteen as he and his sister Samantha experience their parents’ divorce and the complexities of growing up. Ethan Hawke and Evie Thompson portray their parents, while the cast also includes Elijah Smith, Ellar Salmon, and Jordan Howard. By filming over more than a decade with the same actor naturally aging, Linklater creates an intimate portrait of family relationships and personal development.

This is a single-disc DVD release from IFC Films with a runtime of two hours and forty-five minutes and carries an R rating. Owning this used copy lets you experience Linklater’s innovative approach to cinema at a fraction of the cost of a new purchase.
