Vespers of 1610

CD Details

Claudio Monteverdi composed his Vespro Della Beata Vergine in 1610, a landmark work that blends Renaissance polyphony with early Baroque innovation. Apollo’s Fire, the Cleveland-based baroque orchestra led by conductor Jeannette Sorrell, recorded this tribute in 2010 to mark the 400th anniversary of Monteverdi’s masterpiece. The ensemble features soloists Sandra Simon and Jennifer Ellis Kampani on soprano, Meg Bragle on mezzo-soprano, Ian Honeyman and Gareth Morrell on tenor, Jeffrey Strauss on baritone, Michael McMurray on bass, and John Buffett on treble.

This CD release from Avie Records presents the complete Vespro Della Beata Vergine and Magnificat. Apollo’s Fire had performed this work as a signature piece for over a decade before recording it, and their extensive touring and NPR broadcasts helped establish them as a vital force in baroque music. Acquire this used copy and experience a vibrant interpretation of one of the baroque era’s greatest sacred works.
