CD Details

Charles Brown’s career spanned decades of struggle and neglect before a remarkable resurgence in the mid-1980s. This 1994 album, recorded when the pianist was 72 years old, showcases his enduring artistry during his celebrated comeback period. Accompanied by guitarist Danny Caron and saxophonist Clifford Solomon, Brown delivers sophisticated interpretations of jazz and blues standards. His renditions range from Duke Ellington’s “I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good,” where his rich vocals pair beautifully with his piano work, to Louis Jordan’s “Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby,” capturing the essence of jump blues with elegance and restraint.

This CD features 11 tracks spanning over an hour of music, including classics like “Honey,” “Save Your Love for Me,” and “Amazing Grace.” Recorded in France in 1994, the album represents a high point in Brown’s later years as a performer.
