Their romance becomes complicated when Ted discovers that Anna is the daughter of the Soviet ambassador, putting both of them under intense scrutiny from American and Soviet surveillance. Despite the political pressures keeping them apart, the couple continues to meet in secret, attempting to evade the monitoring services of both nations. When Anna becomes pregnant, they decide their love matters more than Cold War politics and attempt a dangerous escape across the English Channel, leaving their fate uncertain.
