Flyboys is a 2006 war drama directed by Tony Bill that tells the story of young American volunteers who joined the French military as fighter pilots during World War I, before the United States entered the conflict. The film follows several idealistic men from different backgrounds-including Blaine Rawlings, who leaves his family’s Nebraska ranch behind; William Jensen, determined to make his family proud; the wealthy Briggs Lowry; and Eugene Skinner, a black expatriate boxer seeking to repay his adopted country. These recruits arrive at a French aerodrome eager to learn to fly, unaware they are about to become the world’s first combat pilots and part of the legendary Lafayette Escadrille squadron.

This widescreen DVD edition runs two hours and twenty minutes and carries a PG-13 rating from MGM. The single disc presentation captures the action, drama, and romance of these young aviators’ experiences in the skies over Europe.
