The Natural(Director's Cut)

Movie / Show Details

Roy Hobbs is a mysterious middle-aged batter who emerges from obscurity to lead a struggling 1930s baseball team toward the championship in this 1984 sports drama directed by Barry Levinson. The film stars Robert Redford as Hobbs alongside Glenn Close, Kim Basinger, and Robert Duvall. Levinson’s director’s cut, released in 2007, restores approximately 15 minutes of footage that was removed before the film’s original theatrical release, reshaping the opening to unfold as a flashback and adding scenes throughout the second half involving supporting characters.

This two-disc DVD edition runs 138 minutes and carries a PG rating from Tri-Star Pictures. The second disc features interviews with cast and crew members, including composer Randy Newman discussing his theme music and Levinson revealing his role as the film’s radio announcer, along with segments on the novel’s adaptation and real-life baseball inspirations. The remastered transfer includes a 5.1 Dolby soundtrack and improved video quality. Own this director’s cut version at a fraction of retail cost.
