The Motorcycle Diaries is a 2004 biographical drama directed by Walter Salles, based on the journals of Ernesto “Che” Guevara and Alberto Granado. The film follows the young Ernesto (Gael García Bernal) and his friend Alberto (Rodrigo De la Serna) as they embark on a motorcycle journey across South America in the 1950s, traveling from Brazil through Peru. Along the way, the two men encounter the region’s stark poverty and witness the exploitation of workers by wealthy industrialists. Their experiences, particularly at a leper colony in Peru, profoundly transform Ernesto’s worldview and set him on the path toward political activism.
