The First Easter Rabbit is a 1976 animated television special produced by Rankin/Bass and narrated by Burl Ives. The story follows Stuffy, a beloved plush rabbit given as a Christmas gift to a young girl who adores him. When the girl falls ill with scarlet fever, a fairy intervenes to save the toy from destruction by bringing him to life and tasking him with an extraordinary mission: becoming the world’s first Easter rabbit. With assistance from Santa Claus, Stuffy must outwit the villainous Zero, who seeks to transform the magical Easter Valley into a frozen wasteland, while learning how to deliver Easter baskets to children everywhere.

This 25-minute TV-G special features voice work from Paul Frees, Robert Morse, and Stan Freberg, with music and songs performed by Ives, including a rendition of Irving Berlin’s “Easter Parade.” The single-disc DVD release captures this family-friendly musical fantasy that appeals to young viewers seeking a secular Easter story.
