Danny Kaye stars in this 1955 Paramount musical comedy as Hawkins, a carnival entertainer who infiltrates the royal court disguised as the legendary court jester Giacomo. Part of a scheme to restore the rightful king and overthrow a corrupt usurper, Hawkins finds himself hypnotized by a court sorceress into believing he is also a legendary assassin, leaving him juggling multiple identities at every turn. Basil Rathbone plays the villainous ruler with his trademark menace, while Glynis Johns and Angela Lansbury round out the cast in this inventive swashbuckler that spoofs Robin Hood and Scaramouche with elaborate musical numbers and slapstick humor.

This is a single-disc DVD presentation of the 101-minute film, rated Approved, from Paramount Pictures. Kaye’s performance shines through in memorable sequences including a sword fight where he constantly switches identities and the famous “chalice from the palace” wordplay routine.
