David Irving directed this 1987 animated musical adaptation of two classic Brothers Grimm tales. In the first story, a miller’s daughter spins straw into gold with help from a mysterious troll, winning the king’s heart and saving her father’s life. However, the troll demands her firstborn child as payment unless she can guess his name before sunrise three times. The second tale follows a boastful tailor who claims to have killed seven in one blow, though his victims were merely houseflies. To win a princess’s hand, he must face off against giants, a unicorn, and a wild boar. Amy Irving, Billy Barty, and Clive Revill provide voices for the characters in this family-friendly adventure.

This single-disc DVD features both stories in one 84-minute presentation, rated G for general audiences. The Cannon Group released this musical fantasy that brings the Grimm brothers’ imaginative worlds to life through animation. Owning this used copy lets you enjoy these enchanting fairy tales without the cost of a new release.
