John Lee Hooker’s The Best of Friends is a blues compilation featuring the legendary guitarist alongside notable collaborators. Recorded from 1988 onward, this collection showcases Hooker performing with artists including Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Los Lobos, Jimmie Vaughan, and Charles Brown. The album highlights Hooker’s enduring command of electric blues through duets and group performances, while also including one solo acoustic track that connects back to his Delta blues origins.
Released on the Pointblank label, this CD contains eleven tracks spanning approximately 45 minutes. Notable selections include a duet with Bonnie Raitt on “I’m in the Mood,” a version of “Boom Boom” featuring Jimmie Vaughan, and “Dimples” with Los Lobos providing backing. The acoustic “Tupelo” stands as the sole solo performance, and the collection features three previously unreleased recordings.
