Based on the Broadway musical, this 1982 comedy musical tells the story of a Texas brothel proprietress who takes a stand when a conservative television crusader threatens to expose and shut down her establishment. Burt Reynolds stars as Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd alongside Dolly Parton as Miss Mona, the owner of the famous Chicken Ranch, inspired by a real-life Texas institution. Together they confront the antagonistic Melvin P. Thorpe, played by Dom DeLuise, in a tale of romance and resistance set to song and dance.
