The American is a 2010 crime thriller directed by Anton Corbijn, starring George Clooney as Jack, an assassin who flees to a small medieval town in Italy after a failed hit. Tasked with customizing a rifle while maintaining his cover as a photographer, Jack finds himself drawn into unexpected connections with the locals, including a priest and a woman named Clara, even as his handler warns against forming attachments. The film offers a restrained, European-influenced take on the hitman genre.
