The tale of a crafty, mischievous little rabbit who outsmarts even the fiercest animals, Brer Rabbit is a computer-animated rendering of Uncle Remus’s “The Adventures of Brer Rabbit”. Brer Turtle (voiced by Danny Glover) introduces Janey (Rhyon Nicole Brown) to Brer Rabbit (Nick Cannon) by describing how Brer Rabbit’s miscommunications with man and the Moon (Wanda Sykes), combined with his insatiable appetite for vegetables, initially caused the descent of animals from space to earth. As Janey and Brer Turtle follow Brer Rabbit through his encounters with Brer Bear (Gary Anthony Williams), Brer Wolf (Wayne Brady), and Brer Fox (D.L. Hughley), his cleverness and cunning are evident as he continually outsmarts the other animals to benefit his own situation. Brer Rabbit’s exploits lead to his exclusion from friendship with the other animals and, while he does eventually exhibit some compassion toward Brer Turtle, he remains a trickster to the end who’s professed secret is to “give the other animals what they think they want.” Several catchy songs add to the appeal of these classic Southern African-American stories.
