Tears of the Sun is a 2003 military action-drama directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Bruce Willis, Cole Hauser, Monica Bellucci, and Tom Skerritt. When a West African government collapses into chaos, Navy SEAL Lieutenant A.K. Waters leads his squadron on a rescue mission to protect a US doctor working as a missionary in the region. The team must grapple with the conflict between following orders and doing what is right as they encounter innocent refugees caught in the violence.

This is the director’s extended cut on single-layer DVD, running 121 minutes and rated R for violence and language. The extended version includes approximately 20 minutes of additional material that expands the film’s political context and introduces supporting characters earlier in the story, while also featuring a more hopeful ending than the theatrical release. Columbia Pictures retained two featurettes and an interactive map as bonus features. Own this expanded take on a gripping war drama at a used price.
