Surge of Power is a 2004 comedy that spoofs superhero conventions with tongue firmly in cheek. When comic book enthusiast Gavin Lucas discovers a mysterious merchant and Issue #1 of “Surge of Power,” he learns about Big City and its unlikely hero. After a freak accident grants superpowers to Professor Ronald Richards, Gavin convinces the reluctant scientist to help him become a crime-fighting superhero. Together they face mad scientists, sabotage, and a mysterious new villain called Metal Master while Gavin grapples with what it truly means to be a hero. The film features cameos from sci-fi legends Nichelle Nichols and Lou Ferrigno, along with a cast including Alison Arngrim and Forrest J Ackerman.

This single-disc DVD presents the film in widescreen cinemascope with a runtime of 85 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating. Directed by Mike Donahue and written by Vincent J. Roth, this satirical take on superhero tropes offers a lighthearted first installment in the “Surge of Power” saga. Grab this used copy and enjoy a fun genre parody without the new price tag.
