A self-made industrialist finds himself reluctant to run for president in this 1948 comedy-drama from director Frank Capra. Spencer Tracy plays the businessman caught between political ambition and personal integrity, while Katharine Hepburn portrays his estranged but sharp-witted wife who rejoins him on the campaign trail. A newspaper heiress, played by Angela Lansbury, complicates matters both politically and personally, setting off a chain of compromises orchestrated by a seasoned political operative, Adolphe Menjou. The ensemble cast, including Van Johnson and Lewis Stone, brings Capra’s trademark wit and rapid-fire dialogue to this adaptation of a successful stage play.
