Rome is a 2005 HBO historical drama series that follows the collapse of the Roman Republic and the emergence of the empire during a time of civil war and conquest. The story centers on Julius Caesar, Octavian Augustus, and ordinary citizens whose lives become intertwined with momentous historical events. Two soldiers, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo, find themselves caught in the political upheaval as corruption and excess erode the Republic’s foundations of shared power. The ensemble cast includes Ciarán Hinds, James Purefoy, David Bamber, and Indira Varma, with direction by Alan Taylor, Michael Apted, and Mikael Salomon.
