Sergei Prokofiev’s piano works come to life in this 1998 recording, the eighth volume in pianist Frederic Chiu’s comprehensive series devoted to the Russian composer. The disc features four collections spanning different periods of Prokofiev’s output: the Four Etudes Op. 2, Four Pieces Op. 32, Things in Themselves Op. 45, and Thoughts Op. 62, along with selections from his Juvenilia. Chiu brings clarity and precision to these varied compositions, from the energetic Study-Scherzo to the introspective movements of Thoughts, which includes pieces marked Adagio Penseroso, Lento, and Andante.

This single CD was released by Harmonia Mundi France with production in the USA. Chiu’s interpretations showcase the range of Prokofiev’s keyboard writing across multiple decades. Add this volume to your collection at a fraction of retail cost.
