Bob Rafelson directed this 1981 crime drama based on James M. Cain’s hardboiled novel, with a screenplay by David Mamet. Jack Nicholson plays Frank Chambers, a drifter who arrives at a roadside diner and becomes entangled with Cora Papadakis, the sensuous wife of the establishment’s owner Nick. Their passionate affair quickly turns sinister as the two conspire to murder Nick, setting off a chain of events with devastating consequences. Jessica Lange co-stars alongside Nicholson, with supporting performances from Anjelica Huston, John Colicos, and others.

This is a single-disc DVD release from Paramount Pictures with a runtime of two hours and two minutes, rated R for sexuality and language. The film takes a grittier and more sexually explicit approach to the source material than earlier adaptations, featuring cinematography by Sven Nykvist.
