Philomena is a 2013 British drama directed by Stephen Frears and based on true events. When Judi Dench’s character becomes pregnant as a teenager in 1952 Ireland, she is sent to a convent where she raises her son for three years before the Church separates them and arranges his adoption to America. Forced to sign away her parental rights, she spends five decades searching for her lost child, unaware that he has been searching for her from across the Atlantic. Steve Coogan co-stars in this film about faith, loss, and the possibility of reunion.
