Ordet is a 1955 Danish drama directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer and based on a play by Kaj Munk. The film follows three brothers whose contrasting approaches to faith-devotion, doubt, and mental illness-are put to the ultimate test when Mikkel’s wife enters a perilous childbirth. Set against a backdrop of family conflict and spiritual questioning, the story transforms a Romeo and Juliet-style romance into a profound meditation on belief, love, and the power of acceptance. The cast includes Birgitte Federspiel, Cay Kristiansen, Ejner Federspiel, Emil Hass Christensen, Anne Elisabeth, and Edith Trane.

This single-disc DVD from Kingsley-International Pictures presents the film in NTSC format, Region 0, with Danish dialogue and English subtitles. Rated 8.2 on IMDb, Ordet stands as one of cinema’s most searching examinations of faith and human connection. Owning this used copy lets you experience a landmark work of spiritual cinema at a fraction of the original retail cost.
