Directed by Gabriel Axel and based on Karen Blixen’s short story, this 1987 Danish drama follows a French woman who flees civil war and finds refuge as a housekeeper in a remote seaside village. She comes to work for two sisters, daughters of a strict minister, who have devoted their lives to faith and self-denial. Years later, Babette wins a lottery and decides to prepare an elaborate French dinner for the community. As the meal approaches, the sisters and village elders worry that indulging in such sensory pleasure might compromise their spiritual convictions, especially when a former suitor of one sister arrives as a guest.

Released by Orion Classics, this one-disc DVD features a runtime of 103 minutes and carries a G rating.
