Music for the Native Americans

CD Details

Robbie Robertson created this 1994 soundtrack for the Turner Network Television special The Native Americans, collaborating with The Red Road Ensemble to blend electronic production with traditional tribal elements. The album pairs contemporary atmospherics with Native American chanting and instrumentation, featuring guest vocalists Pura Fe, Soni, and Jen alongside Robertson’s own contributions. Tracks like “Coyote Dance,” “Ghost Dance,” and “It Is A Good Day To Die” showcase Robertson’s attempt to honor Native American themes through a modern sonic lens.

This CD contains ten tracks including “Mahk Jchi (Heartbeat Drum Song),” “Cherokee Morning Song,” and “The Vanishing Breed,” running approximately 47 minutes total. The album balances Robertson’s atmospheric production style with traditional instrumentation and vocal performances, creating a work that feels both of its era and rooted in cultural heritage.
