Lola: Running Down a Dream is a 2001 Canadian drama directed by Carl Bessai that explores one woman’s struggle to define herself. The film follows Lola, a woman in her thirties trapped in a confusing marriage to Mike, a controlling husband who acts more like a father figure than a partner. When Lola saves the life of a mysterious woman named Sandra, she becomes drawn to everything Sandra represents: confidence, independence, and self-determination. However, when Sandra’s troubled past catches up with her, Lola finds herself on an unexpected journey, gradually assuming Sandra’s identity as she travels toward Sandra’s childhood home in rural British Columbia.
