Izo is a 2004 Japanese action film directed by Takashi Miike that blends historical drama with science fiction and horror elements. Set in 1865 during the final days of the Shogunate, the story follows Izo, a skilled assassin working for Hanpeida, a Tosa lord supporting the Imperial cause. After eliminating numerous enemies of the Shogun, Izo is captured and crucified as punishment. Through supernatural means, he is transported across time to present-day Tokyo, where he emerges as an unstoppable force of vengeance.
