The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the 2013 fantasy adventure sequel directed by Peter Jackson, continuing the journey of Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, and thirteen dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield as they quest to reclaim their kingdom of Erebor. Along their perilous path, they encounter the shape-shifter Beorn, giant spiders lurking in Mirkwood, wood-elves including Legolas and Tauriel under King Thranduil’s rule, and a mysterious man named Bard who helps smuggle them into Lake-town. Their ultimate destination is the Lonely Mountain, where they must confront their greatest threat: the dragon Smaug. The film stars Adam Brown, Aidan Turner, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dean O’Gorman, Evangeline Lilly, and Graham McTavish, with a screenplay by Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, and Philippa Boyens.
