Herbie Goes Bananas is a 1980 Disney family comedy directed by Vincent McEveety and starring Alex Rocco, Charles Martin Smith, Cloris Leachman, and Elyssa Davalos. The film follows the beloved sentient Volkswagen Beetle as he embarks on a journey through Central America with his new owners, heading toward a racing competition in Rio de Janeiro. Along the way, the group encounters a smuggling operation, a young pickpocket, and various other obstacles that test Herbie’s resourcefulness and charm. Shot on location in Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Tijuana, and the Panama Canal zone, this action-packed adventure combines stunts and special effects to deliver family-friendly humor and excitement.

This is a single-disc DVD presentation with a runtime of one hour and forty minutes, rated G by the MPAA and distributed by Buena Vista Distribution Company. The production made extensive use of special effects, employing 26 Volkswagen Beetles and three Cessna aircraft to bring the story to life.
